Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. All 8 weekclasses are 80.00. All 4 week calsses are 40.00. Please contact Alison Brendel if you have any questions. You can sign up for classes on our REGISTRATION page.

Tuesday
FILLED - 5:00 to 6:30 Agility I Instructors: Linda Scannell and Linda Kennedy
Beginning Agility- Dogs must have completed some training (CGC and preferably be over 1 year. Dog should have a reliable recall, and know sit, down and stay. During this class all obstacles are introduced, and the handler learns the basic rules of agility ( small to tall, basic rules, etc. Short sequences are run off lead. Dog should repeat until all obstacles ( except weaves and teeter) are basically solid and the dog can be trusted off lead for at least 3-5 obstacles. Limit 8 dogs. This class is 8 weeks long. Class to be held in Kennewick, Directions to be provided.***Students are expected to help with equipment set up and taken down*** Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

FILLED - 7:00 to 8:15 Agility II Instructors: Linda Scannell and Linda Kennedy
Novice Agility- Dogs must have mastered all jumps and obstacles except weaves, and they may not yet be solid on the teeter. Dogs learn longer sequences, and handlers learn handling skills. The goal for this class is for the dog to be able to run a complete course off lead. Dogs may stay in this course until this goal is met. Limit 8 dogs.This class is 8 weeks long. Class to be held in Kennewick, Directions to be provided.

Thursday

FILLED - 5:00 PM Agility Vl-Advanced Handlers Class Instructor: Mim Myren

This class is will use many techniques from the Greg Derrett DVD "Great Dog, Great Handler THE WINNING COMBINATION".  Handlers will be learning to handle difficult sequences of jumps with confidence and accuracy. We will be using 7 to 16 jump courses. As the class progresses, tunnels and contact obstacles will be included. Dogs participating in this class should be running confidently a sequence of jumps and contacts. Limit 6 dog/handler teams. This class is 8 weeks long. Class to be held in West Richland, Directions to be provided.

Clubhouse classes beginning June 14th

Monday
5:30 PM Advanced Freestyle Run Throughs performance organized with music, illustrating the training and joyful relationship of a dog and handler team. Freestyle is an excellent discipline to illustrate the conformation and movement of the dog. This class is for dogs who have taken Freestyle classes.  Handlers will put together a full routine with their dogs, either for fun or to compete.  Dogs for this class have their own music, their own routines, and work on refining the routine, developing props and costumes for their “act” etc. This is limited only by the dogs skill level. Class is 8 weeks long. Limit 6 dogs. REGISTER

9:30 AMPuppy Class Instructor : Rose Wilson/Julie Kirk
STAR puppy class (3-6 months)
S ocialization - T raining - A ctivity - R esponsibility
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start.  Training will consist of owner behaviors, puppy behaviors, and pre-canine good citizen test behaviors.  Classes will include valuable training tips for puppy owners - such as how to housetrain - and lessons on practical skills for puppies -such as coming when called.
When you complete the class with your puppy your puppy is eligible to be enrolled in the AKC STAR Puppy Program.  You must attend at least 6 out of the 8 classes.  Your instructor will administer a test at the end of the course.  Upon passing the test, you’ll get an application to send to AKC for enrollment.  All dogs are welcome to participate in the program including purebreds and mixed breeds.

10:30 AM Continuing Novice Obedience Instructor: Mary Ellen Thien

This class will continue preparing students for Novice Obedience showing.  Emphasis will be on proper ring technique, precise heeling, accurate response to judges directions, ring protocol and procedures to prepare handler and dog for successful ring appearance.Additional exercises will foster dog enthusism, new challenges for dog and handler and making the whole experience "fun" for handler and dog. Students who successfully completed Beginning Novice are eligible for this class.  New students accepted at descretion of the instructor. Class is 8 weeks long. Limited to 8 dogs.Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

11:45 AM Rally Run Throughs Instructor: Group
This class is a people needing time to practice rally courses before competition. Handlers need to have understanding of the signs. Some assistance will be avilable, though this is not an instructed course. Courses will be laid for Novice and Advanced and Excellent dogs. Class is free to CBDTC members and 5.00 a week to Non-members. REGISTER

FILLED - 6:30 PM Rally-O Beginning Instructor: Brooke Lanigan
For students that are new to the sport of Rally Obedience.  This is a fun class, where the handlers have to learn more than the dogs!  YOU will learn the rally signs and the proper execution of the signs. You will have ample opportunity to practice on novice courses.  Your dog must be able to walk on a leash.  Please bring a crate for your dog. Prerequisite:  CGC or some sort of beginning obedience.  Dog should know to sit and down on command.Number of dogs in class: 6 preferred -  8 maximum. Class is 8 weeks long. Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

7:30 PM June 15-July 6 Beginning Canine Freestyle: Sarah Tragasser/Rhonda Riggle

Canine Freestyle is a new sport that is as fun for you as it is for your dog. It combines elements of obedience and agiility with the addition of tricks and music. In the begining class you'll learn some basic moves and how to work on putting together a routine, picking music, and having fun. A sense of creativity and good humor is required to particpate. Dogs must be under control around outher dogs, preferably have a CGC as well. This class is 4 weeks long begining June 15. Limited to 8 dogs. Class cost is 40.00 to be paid on the first class.

The World Canine Freestyle Organization defines canine freestyle as follows:

"Musical Freestyle is a choreographed musical program performed by handlers and their dogs. The object of musical freestyle is to display the dog and handler in a creative, innovative and original dance, using music and intricate movements to showcase teamwork, artistry, costuming, athleticism and style in interpreting the theme of the music. Routines should create a visually exciting display which is enjoyable to watch and which is equally enjoyable to dogs and handlers executing the programs. Canine freestyle is a showcase that truly demonstrates the joys and fun of bonding with your pet." REGISTER

7:30 PM July 13-August 3 Advanced/Excellent Rally Run throughs: Brooke Lanigan
This class is run-throughs only for those competing in Rally Advanced and Excellent.  A different course will be set-up each week.  Brooke will be facilitating and offer assistance if wanted. This class is 4 weeks long, free for CBDTC members, 5.00 a week for non-members. REGISTER

 

Wednesday


10:00 AM Foundation of Agility Instructor: Jane Cooper
This class is held offsite in Kennewick, it will not be at the CBDTC Clubhouse

This is for dogs with only basic training (puppy class or CGC) to familiarize them with agility and the equipment. The only requirement is that the dog must be good around other dogs. This class is good for young or immature dogs that are easily distracted or could not physically handle the equipment at full height etc. Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

6:00 PM Open/Utility Obedience Instructor: Mary Ellen Thien
In general the class is designed to teach open & utility requirements for ring success. A prerequisite to this class must be the dog having a sound foundation in novice work and reliability of steady behavior around other dogs especially when retrieving, jumping and off lead work is required.  Dogs competing or ready to compete in Open or Utility. Much of this class is geared to each team and during class students are often asked to work on an individual basis. A CD title or equivalent is required to participate in this class. Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

7:00 PM Novice Obedience & Beyond Instructor: Lezlie Couch
This class is designed for Novice teams who are ready  or competing in Novice obedience. The dogs should be solid on 1 minute sits and 3 minute downs, work reliably (not perfectly) off lead and do a reliable recall around other dogs. Half of the class period will be devoted to polishing novice work, with special emphasis on working with distractions and improving off leash work. The second half of the class will be geared to new open exercises, to keep the dogs and handlers from getting bored, and to prepare them for the next level of obedience work. This will include introduction of longer and out of sight stays, retrieving, jumping, hand signals, and dropping from a stand. Dogs do not have to be competing to join this class, but they must be able to work well with other dogs, and handlers must be willing to work consistently during the week on new exercises because many of these, such a retrieving, require several weeks of consistent daily regimen.Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. 8:00 PM Beginning Competiton Obedience Instructor: Leezlie Couch
A dog have had some beginning obedience and must be able to work reliably off lead with other dogs and distractions. Instructor approval required. Emphasis will be given to preparation for competition and getting the dog to work reliably off lead. Limited to 8 dogs. 9:30 AM Beginning Novice Obedience Instructor: Gerri Little/Julie Kirk
Dog must have CGC or equivalent. Dog may or may not have been involved in Rally. This is for people who want a foundation in real obedience- having a dog obey the first time it is asked regardless of distractions. Although this is taught so that people who want to compete will be able to, this class emphasizes practical application of obedience and the advantage and safety it affords the dog in every other sport. Attention, focus, and obedience handling skills will be the primary goal. Skills will be heeling, stand for exam, recall, 1 minute sit stay, and 3 minute down in formal and in practical settings. Class is 8 weeks long. Limited to 8 dogs.Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

10:30 AM Home Companion Instructor: Julie Kirk
Open to dogs 6 months of age or older. The dog learns to walk on a loose leash, lie down, sit, stand, stay in position and come when called. Focus on the handler and dealing with distractions will be stressed. Different training styles will be discussed and basic health, grooming, manners and socializing techniques are also covered. Common problems like jumping up will be addressed. This class is beneficial for those who simply want their dog to be a good companion and for those who want to lay the foundation for more training and possibly competition. Class is 8 weeks long. Limit 8 dogs.Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first class. REGISTER

11:30 AM Canine Good Citizenship Instructor: Julie Kirk/Danette Payton
This class focuses on the skills & behaviors evaluated in the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, such as walk on a loose lead, sit, down, stay, come, being still for grooming or petting, being left with a stranger. This is a good class for those who’ve completed Home Companion or Puppy and want to go on training! All 10 of the required Canine Good Citizen requirements will be practiced, and the test is given free of charge by certified evaluators on the 8th week. Prerequisite: Puppy or Home Companion class or permission of training director Class cost is 80.00 to be paid on the first night of class. REGISTER

FRIDAY

7:00 PM Click-it
This is a informal group that meets at the clubhouse to specifically work on training with clickers. Dogs need to be under control around other dogs. If you want to learn more about clickers or need help figuring out possibilities to get to a behavior or to stop an unwanted one, it might be worth a drop by. If you need some one-on -one time with a dog working on something new, come on over. Clicker is a fantastic and fun way to traing with your dog and build a better relationship. Click-it is free to CBDTC members, 5.00 a class for non-members. REGISTER

 

Tracking
Tracking occurs on Tuesdays and on Weekends in a variety of locations.  Please contact Deb Hannah to be included in the emails and list for the Tracking group.  Dogs of all ages are welcome to participate, but RSVP is needed to allow adequate track set up time for the dogs.

Chickadee Ranch
Saturday/Sunday Obedience and Rally Practices are held at Chickadee Ranch for CBDTC members.  Rally run throughs will be for teams that are already ready competing or close to competing in Advanced or Excellent.  Novice dogs may run, but there will be signs in the courses that would not be on a Novice level class. Agility Run through to follow or run concurrently with Obedience and rally.  RSVP is requested to schedule time.  Please contact Tracy Hill for more information.
