AGILITY

Foundation of Agility- This is for dogs with only basic training ( puppy class or CGC) to familiarize them with agility and the equipment. The only requirement is that the dog must be good around other dogs. This class is good for young or immature dogs that are easily distracted or could not physically handle the equipment at full height etc.

Agility I- Beginning Agility- Dogs must have completed some training (CGC and preferably be over 1 year. Dog should have a reliable recall, and know sit, down and stay. During this class all obstacles are introduced, and the handler learns the basic rules of agility ( small to tall, basic rules, etc. Short sequences are run off lead. Dog should repeat until all obstacles ( except weaves and teeter) are basically solid and the dog can be trusted off lead for at least 3-5 obstacles.

Agility II- Novice Agility- Dogs must have mastered all jumps and obstacles except weaves, and they may not yet be solid on the teeter. Dogs learn longer sequences, and handlers learn handling skills. The goal for this class is for the dog to be able to run a complete course off lead. Dogs may stay in this course until this goal is met.

Agility III- Intermediate Agility Dogs can run a complete course. Handling skills are emphasized. Dogs become more reliable. Goal is to run a successful competition level course within course time and with few mistakes .Dogs may stay in this course until this goal is met.

Agility IV- Advanced. This is for dogs who can run a complete course with very few mistakes, and who can make course time. This is basically running courses for practice and helping each other prepare for competition.

For a variety of reasons, the agility group has tried to squeeze every time available that is possible into classes because our winter practice is so limited by the weather. So there are several other options that don’t really fall into a sequence.

1. movie nights, training, and workshops- available to anyone at any level whenever offered.
2 Obedience for agility- any level- practice on obedience skills related to agility
3. Advanced handling- handling skills rather than course running
4. Short mini "obstacle " classes to introduce obstacles to dogs that just need to learn the obstacles
5. weaving classes
