Agility FUNdamentals
In this class, we will build a strong foundation for agility, which includes: forming a strong working relationship with your dog; playing with your dog; teaching your dog to read and understand your body language; familiarizing you and your dog with agility equipment; and introducing your dog to a competition environment.
PRE REQ: Puppy class and/or CGC. Dog must be good around other dogs
Agility ABC’s (formerly Agility I)
We will provide groundwork skills training for the dog and handler, as well as the basic agility obstacles. A refresher of basic obedience skills will be reviewed as needed. Short sequences are run off-lead. Team should repeat until all obstacles (except weaves and teeter) are basically solid and the dog can be trusted off lead for at least 3-5 obstacles.
Agility ABC’s class will be repeated until the dog meets the standards required for the next level. No dog will be able to progress to the next level without a reliable recall. After successful completion of this class your team will move up to Essential Agility
PRE REQ: Dogs must be over 1 year old, and have a CGC or equivalent. Dog must be good with other dogs.
Essential Agility (formerly Agility II)
Dogs must have mastered all jumps and obstacles except weaves, and they may not yet be solid on the teeter. Teams learn longer sequences, and handlers learn basic handling skills. The goal for this class is for the dog to be able to run a complete course off lead.
Essential Agility will be repeated until the team meets the standards required for the next level. After successful completion of this class your team will move up to Absolute Agility
PRE REQ: Recommendation of Agility Assessor and Agility ABC’s Instructor
Absolute Agility (formerly Agility III)
Teams are running a complete course. More complex handling skills are emphasized, and dogs become more reliable. The goal for this class is to run a successful competition level course within course time and with few mistakes. Dogs may stay in this course until this goal is met.
PRE REQ: Recommendation of Agility Assessor and Essentials Instructor
Agile-Agility I (Formerly Agility IV)
This course is based on exercises designed by Greg Derrett, and is intended to strengthen the handler’s technique. You will improve consistency in your handling skills and learn to “read” when your dog commits to an obstacle. Dogs should be working well off-lead over fences for this class. Only jumps and tunnels are used during this class.
PRE REQ: Recommendation of Agility Assessor
Agile-Agility II (Formerly Agility V)
This course expands on the exercises designed by Greg Derrett. Handlers will learn to handle difficult sequences of jumps with confidence and accuracy. As the class progresses, tunnels and contact obstacles will be included. Dogs participating in this class should be running confidently a sequence of jumps and contacts.
PRE REQ: Recommendation of Agility Assessor and Agile-Agility Instructor
Agility Aces!
This is for teams who can run a complete course with very few mistakes, and who can make course time. This is basically running courses for practice and helping each other prepare for competition. Either Open or Excellent level courses will be set for each session.
PRE REQ: Recommendation of Agility Assessor
For a variety of reasons, the agility group has tried to squeeze every time available that is possible into classes because our winter practice is so limited by the weather. So there are several other options that don’t really fall into a sequence.
1. movie nights, training, and workshops- available to anyone at any level whenever offered.
2 Obedience for agility- any level- practice on obedience skills related to agility
3. Advanced handling- handling skills rather than course running
4. Short mini "obstacle " classes to introduce obstacles to dogs that just need to learn the obstacles
5. weaving classes
